    The Kenai Peninsula lies just south of Anchorage and is a large mountainous area with some of the most easily accessed backcountry from Anchorage. One of the most popular areas of the state for fishermen and other travelers, the peninsula sees many visitors and use throughout the summer, but the great majority are on the roadways or fishing along tributaries of the Kenai river.

    The Kenai Peninsula's mountains are steep and densely forested with white spruce and alder brush at lower altitudes and carpeted with tundra among rocky crags, snowfields and glaciers at higher elevations.  The rocky coastline is mountainous and densly forested .
