Eastern Alaska Range Backcountry
|
Much like Denali National Park ecologically and without the restrictions associated with National Park hiking, the Eastern Alaska Range is another favorite spot for Alaskans seeking remote Alaska Range backcountry. With the right knowledge of where to go and what to expect, you will find the Eastern Alaska Range to be ideal for backpacking and canoeing in a truly wild backcountry area.
Here you will find treeless tundra perfect for backpacking with opportunities for breathtaking views of large glacier-filled mountains. There are also numerous pristine lakes ideal for canoeing which are surrounded by tundra-covered mountains with excellent hiking.
Due to its remoteness (about a one day drive from Anchorage or half day+ drive from Fairbanks), the area has limited tourist facilities. Nearly all access roads and points to the mountains are unmarked on maps and require local knowledge in order to find. We can direct you to many less-visited areas that we love and can provide you with a superb wilderness experience.
